Re: 9x39 project
I just wanted to share this story from a guy I know on another forum. I have seen the photo but since it's not my photo, I'm not going to spread it around everywhere. But here is his story if anyone is concerned about the 9x39 while hunting. It was a one shot kill at about 65 yards with Tula. She fl...

Re: Blast chamber question
I don't know about a sticky, but what does and doesn't work, is very relative. What doesn't work in one thing, may work wonderfully in something else. And vice/versa. As for how close it can be to a flash hider or brake, it could be skin tight and press fit if that's how you want to make it. Though,...

Re: 9x39 project
Because we can, and it works well when done correctly. The 35/9mm bore sizes are easy to make good hollow points expand, and the terminal effects can be excellent so it's not stunt shooting or inhumane. This is a lot different than guys trying to shoot deer with subsonic 240gr SMK bullets in a 300 ...

Re: 9x39 project
And my reply is not meant to be smart aleck either so don't take it that way. Because I can. They're not wearing armor. My shots are always well within 75 yards. And more typically between 7-40 yards. Further, if you have seen how well the 9x39 was doing with penetration into the 5 gallon water buck...

Re: 9x39 project
All my loads are worked up. Hoping to be able to cross paths with a deer in a few weeks with it. After season, I intend to shorten the gas block from the pistol length port placement, back an inch and a half further closer to the chamber for a micro gas port placement. That is similar to what the Ru...

Re: Anyone experiment making high and low pressure in cans?
Here is a quick explanation to what's been rolling around in my head. Use a ported muzzlebrake since they already port gas to the side rather than forward, and the expansion chamber be cone shaped so near where the bullet would exit from the brake, be narrow (should be a higher pressure because it ...

You did really good on that.
K baffles are among the most difficult and time consuming style to make. Lots of different cuts and angles. You nailed it like a pro. Very good job sir.

Re: #baffles and low/high pitch suppression designs?
Not unlike a car muffler, those short glass packs like what is on dirt bikes with few or no baffles in them are loud.
Those big fat long car mufflers, usually are a lot more quiet.
That's about the only way that I can describe it.

Re: 30 Cal Form 1 Project
ecco, have you tried clipping at different heights or depths--however you look at it? I mean one clip being 1/2 inch long from the face for instance an the other one being 3/8 of an inch long from the face just for example. I'm just curious if that would change anything? I know it would the pressure...

Sorry that I'm just now seeing your build topic. You did a good job building that. You did some nice cutting with that. The gnome is funny. I have a buddy who used to take pictures of an eric cartmann plush doll all over the place. When he went on vacations, laying on the pillow beside his wife whil...

Re: 9x39 project
Had some time to test out some of the Lehigh bullet hand loads. Man, these things are awesome. I truly believe the 9x39 is about the closest thing to a "wonder round" where subsonics are concerned as I have ever seen. The 262 gr xtreme defense bullets penetrated through two 5 gallon bucket...

Re: 9x39 project
#40 fan is correct.
The 9x39, being a low pressure round, needs to be treated like a 22 rimfire. Short, almost non-existant expansion chamber, and stuff a ton of baffles in there.

Re: Paper Form1 disapproved after 12 months
I would imagine that there may be an "open" case involving perhaps your name. Or perhaps they tried to contact you (by mail) and it got lost or undelivered and they didn't receive a response within the 30 days? Or perhaps they got a "match" on your fingerprints. If you call the N...

Re: 9x39 project
Well, some more good news with this project. Lehigh Defense is sending me some of the 254gr expanding pills to test. I know how good they were in my blackout, I expect these are going to be just as good. I should have them early next week and be able to test them out in some 5 gallon water jugs. Tha...

Re: 9x39 project
Thanks for that info yondering.
I don't have any, but am not against buying a pound of it to try the next time that I order any hazmat stuff.
I'm almost out of titegroup anyway. But I can't complain. I've had that little bottle of powder for a while now and used it for a lot of stuff.

Re: 9x39 project
yeah, here are two recommendations if you're going to use it on the 9x39. Have a VERY short expansion chamber because this being an extremely low pressured round, you'll get a lot of FRP if you don't. Secondly, you'll have to use a larger than normal 9mm bore hole since the 9.3mm mauser bullets you'...

Re: 9x39 project
Was up to 960 fps average this evening with 7.7 gr. which was as hot as I loaded today. I'm not entirely sure if I want to push it a whole lot farther. Maybe 7.9 gr, but that's about where I'm going to stop. Though I was getting no pressure signs or flattened primers and easy extraction with 7.7. Th...

Re: 9x39 project
Alright, had some time to test some reloads out yesterday evening. This caliber is continuing to impress me. I think it's going to surpass the blk in my hunting spot. There are two people on this forum that have been instrumental in helping get this project off the ground and for that, I am grateful...

Re: 9x39 project
.366" (9.3mm mauser)
The factory bimetal bullets are .364"
Since these bullets are a touch fatter, and softer, I'm hoping that it gets a better gas seal, and perhaps a little better accuracy.
The factory bullets weren't inaccurate, but a guy can always hope to improve.

Re: 9x39 project
In doing some experimenting this morning, I found out that I won't be able to load the bullet as long as I had originally thought. That jammed into the throat of the chamber and pushed the bullet back quite a bit. So, I'm going to reduce the COL and will need to reduce the powder charge some too. Ho...

Re: 9x39 project
I'm going to be using 7.62x39 brass case (Winchester actually). I had a few boxes of it already so I fired them off and have them resized and ready to reprime and repowder and reload. While it's possible to convert berdan primer over to boxer primer, I'm not going that route. You can purchase once f...

Re: 9x39 project
No sir, I'm using one of my existing 9mm cans, and it already sounds better than the blk did out of the box. My next step is to test out two hand loads (N310 and Titegroup) and see what I think about them. If they get down to as quiet as I would hope, I may not have the need or the desire to pay the...

And a factory wolf 278 gr 9.3mm (9.3)
