Looking to build a 22 rimfire Form 1. Looking at the Gemtech I see they use 7075 tube. Anyone have a reasonable source for 1 inch 0.050" wall tube?
What about using seamless 6061 T6 in 0.058 wall?
Second question, what's the tick to using the search function on this forum. When I search all I get is reams of gibberish.

As for metals and thickness, it depends ENTIRELY upon the pressures, applications, fire rate you plan to use.
For .22 lr nearly anything will work. Even plastic will stand up for quite a while if it's from a 16.5" barrel. Some companies actually use high density polymers for their tubes and endcap rings. Just use metal for the baffles.

Aluminum 6061 tubing will be fine as a pressure tube, its rare to find 7075 as tubing. Using 7075 for end caps and baffles would be a good idea though 6061 can be used.
You should look into surface finishes to protect the aluminum from corrosion.You can use home anodizing ,paint or epoxy type finishes.A surface finish is a requirement for long time service.
I would argue that stainless steel is a better choice.It requires no finish and resistant to corrosion.

The Good Captain's observation that "... its rare to find 7075 as tubing."
is correct.
Passing on another 'gunsmith kink': if you do wish to have a 7075
. .22 can one way is what I saw many years ago
that a gunsmith I highly respected used to start with a 1.125" diameter 7075 round
billet.
He then progressively drilled it out from both ends. Then the next phase was
to use a long boring bar from each end until he reached approximately .985" ...
drills/boring got hole within range.
He then did something clever ... he took
an adjustable long 1" reamer* and while lathe was turning slowly, oiling the
reamer, he pushed the long reamer in to clean up the inside in one action. Smooth
as glass. Straight as a die. One can make a 1" i.d. 7075 tube of any length.

2024-T3 is another option but it is expensive. I buy mine from TW metals. 1.375 od x .125 wall is in the neighborhood of $5 per inch if you buy a 12' length.
