I want to build a 12" 1.5ID suppressor for 45acp. I saw some people on here saying that the expansion chamber should be 1/3 of your can. With a 12" tube that would be 4". This seems alittle big. Is that a good rule to follow or does that not apply to 12" cans? I will also be running it with a booster so the booster would be taking up alittle bit of the expansion chamber.
I will be running this can on a glock 21 with a 6 inch barrel. I dont have any particular ammo in mind but I would like to run it with 230g FMJ since its the most available ammo.
Unrelated, but how come no one uses wipes on 45acp? All of the videos I watched with wipes were on 9mm cans. Not a single person used it with 45. Is there a reason for this? I understand you need an SOT to replace wipes because theyre considered suppressor parts now. Does that mean you have to be an SOT to own a wipe or could I take my supressor to an SOT to get a wipe and have them replaced?

Perhaps its comparing apples to oranges, but the Delisle carbine used wipes on it's .45 platform.

Where,when ?
The only reason after 243 years the government now wants to disarm you is they intend to do something you would shoot them for!

As memory serves in late 1960s in UK the DeLisle was exhibited at
a closed meeting and as the Good Captain said no wipes seen.
And as the venerable .45 naturally subsonic it could cause
some unappealing problems.
Please show your final .45 art work.

An esteemed New Orleans designer once made for
a FORECON effort an aluminum can 1.75" x 9" filled with
simple bronze fender washers and bronze ring spacers that was
fitted to a bolt action .45 rifle. No wipes. Impressive. Obeyed
the KISS doctrine.

I stand corrected. I suppose I had the 9mm Hush-Puppy in mind when I was thinking of secret-squirrel suppressors, with shoot through baffles.
Re: Expansion chamber size on 12" 1.5ID tube?
Thank you for clarification.
"Secret-squirrel suppressors" Raised an hilarious image of past
agent "Secret Squirrel*, also known as Agent 000, is a hat-and-trenchcoat-wearing spy who,
along with his sidekick Morocco Mole, fights international agents of crime and intrigue
using both his intelligence and a collection of guns and gadgets."
He put new meaning into the WW2 term Tail-Gunner.
Many fun interpretations.
In real life the humble .22 rimfire has been preferred from WW2 onward to present day.
Read Paulson's and Truby's books for example.
On the other end for larger calibers one is taken aback when a larger caliber
suppressor is tested on YouTube and the tester is wearing ear plugs while
smilingly saying how quiet the can is.

Reiterating info above, the long ago 'New Orleans' can 1.75" x 9"± has
an internal volume around 17 cubic inches. Turn Up The Volume.
