No problem Jack.

"Are there enough vents in that bbl?" Well, with a shotshell, there is a lot of burning powder to expand and cool. Most of the "action" takes place in about the first foot. The basic design allows for experimenting with the number and size of ports and packing mat'ls and coolant. I would really like for others to build these as I'm sure that there is room for improvement. Jack.

Re: 12 gauge Shotgun suppressor ideas.
I can't find the "Silver-solder a steel rear endcap" where can i find the parts to build a can? Do you have links? What are you using for the can tube, end caps for both ends?!
I would like to chop down my barrel and redo it to 20" and see if I can't make a can for it. If not then just port my barrel and build a can!

could you shoot slugs and avoid this barrel porting?

Re: 12 gauge Shotgun suppressor ideas.
This design is very effective. It works. Especially when using the Federal brand Metro loads. They are subsonic right out of the box.
The wadding or packing used can make a big difference as well. The scotch bright stainless scouring stuff is pretty durable.
Even with all of the porting the wad stays together. I still think a combo of porting and baffles should be tested. After viewing the slow-mo video of a shotgun firing, it looks as though the wad doesn't open up until well after it leaves the barrel. I think the key is keeping the pressure consistent inside the suppressor to contain the wad.
The clandestine 12 had porting and monocore on a pump i believe. Thats what got me thinking.

Video of one-eyed-jack's integral. If these are normal loads I'm impressed.

.410 2 stamp?

One stamp for the suppressor one stamp for under 18" barrel or is it over "18 with a OAL of 26" or more its a cool buildChimeraPrecision wrote:Why two stamps? Is this an SBS?Capt. Link. wrote:.410 2 stamp?

Hopefully someone can chime in with some dimensions. I'd like to know how long that barrel isCapt. Re: 12 gauge Shotgun suppressor ideas.
That appears to be over 18" barrel length. The tube itself seems to be between 14-16" long, plus the remainder of the barrel (chamber end). Seems like a one stamp gun.
RIP Dave. You will be missed.

Could be it was a question, anyway a nice build I would like to see more.PTK wrote:That appears to be over 18" barrel length. The tube itself seems to be between 14-16" long, plus the remainder of the barrel (chamber end). Seems like a one stamp gun.
It goes to show you old tech is far from dead and very effective.
Nice Charts BTW

Re: 12 gauge Shotgun suppressor ideas.
For shotguns, old tech works just fine. After a certain point the main noise is coming from the shot and shot cup in the air, not the blast from the gas any more. With enough volume, an empty tube with an endcap on both ends and attached correctly is plenty quiet, too.
Personally though, I'm waiting for certain patents to run out (coming up soon enough) so that I can make a few more modern shotgun silencers. It is shocking how small a shotgun silencer can be with actual baffles.
Thanks for the compliment re: the charts. I plan to make some other reference charts containing info I use all the time.

Re: 12 gauge Shotgun suppressor ideas.
i have a question.
the barrel itself has threads on its front, so, no escape of hot gas there.
but how about a eventual rear leak?
i mean, in the rear, the silencer tube is threaded to silencer cap, ok.
but how does the rear silencer cap connects to the barrel?
is it threaded too? (how, if the threads are too low, ate barrel surface level?)
is it welded?
or is it just fited thight? (in this case, does exists a chance of a gas leak direct onto shooter eyes?)
thanks in advance.

Have those patents expired yet?PTK wrote:For shotguns, old tech works just fine. Re: 12 gauge Shotgun suppressor ideas.
It is weird how this is so similar to my 20 gauge idea. In fact, I have the same host!
I will be doing three baffled sections in mine though, and more porting with smaller holes, on a shorter barrel.
Looks like someone beat me to the idea

Still uses a wad. After barrel wad separates ....do not want it staying in the can and screwing things upChimeraPrecision wrote:could you shoot slugs and avoid this barrel porting?

Look at BeerWolf's Jun 29 2011 post and read the text. All explained there. No gas leakage in 18 years, but I use good eye protection anyway, as we all should. Jack.amayumi wrote:

Re: 12 gauge Shotgun suppressor ideas.
The subject of wads getting caught in baffles seems to worry a lot of you .If you look at the hushpower 410 bore muzzle suppresor it is 25 cms long and the hole in the baffles is 1/2 inch(and was used on AK47's by the greek cypriots during the troubles). In the 20 years I have owned mine I have never had a wad caught in the baffles and have lots of friends in the UK with the 12 bore intrigal silencers with baffles they say the same thing However baffles may not be necessary.Jacks silencer with a simple ported barrel sounded a lot quieter to me than the baffled hushpower version
Re: 12 gauge Shotgun suppressor ideas.
Remember the old Cutts Compensator?
I have one on a shotgun and there is almost a 2" gap (the compensator) between the muzzle and the choke. I have never had a wad stuck in the gun.
I dont see that holes or baffles would present a problem in a suppressor.

Re: 12 gauge Shotgun suppressor ideas.
Personally I would slot the barrel instead of punching holes on it,
Would make deburring no fun but would be quicker
