Sig 226 or 229 as Silencer Host

Post by djenurm »

Can anyone answer this definitively? I'm about to toss a coin but I've heard "rumors" that the 226 is a better one, although I'd prefer the 229.

Thanks for anyones advice, Dave

I'll assume you're just saying "Read the forum lazy guy". Because I did go through it and read many posts! What I'm looking for is quantitative evidence on which way to go. Your links have been very helpful, But I'm looking for empirical evidence. Has it ever been done? I just put a hefty deposit down on a Legion, and I can choose either 226 or 229 when they come in 2 weeks from now at my local store. I have a 229 .40 and prefer it's size but this new gun is specifically to run with an AAC Ti-Rant so I'm looking for anyone who has done or knows of a comparison test.

Thanks, Dave

Not enough difference that most people would notice and probably no difference anyone could hear without having both guns side by side with the same ammo and same suppressor. All the best equipment and crap ammo won't outperform a lot of the third tier cans.

There is metering data available on at least one forum that puts the 226 ahead, by a tiny bit, of the 228 on average, the 228 being similar in build/function to the 229. However more variables change than just the gun.

That same data source puts the Glock 17 ahead of both the p229 and p228 in terms of metering ... depending on the suppressor and depending on the ammo and depending on the day.

The moral of the story is get the best suppressor you can afford and use it on the gun you like.

If you get all bunched up trying to match the perfect suppressor to the perfect host with the perfect ammo at the perfect location you'll never enjoy this hobby.

The Sig Sauer P226 and P229 9mm handguns have become the most popular 9mm pistols in America. The Sig Sauer P226 and P229 are very popular with police departments, military, and civilian shooters. The Sig Sauer P226 and P229 are identical gun models which differ only in the length of pull, magazine capacity, and grip size.

The Sig Sauer P226 and P229 are very accurate, reliable, and durable handguns that can be used for personal protection as well as sport shooting. The Sig Sauer handguns are also popular with hunters because of their accuracy at long-range shots. Daikin Heat Pump Review

The Sig Sauer pistols are available in a number of different configurations including models that have been converted to .40 caliber or .45 caliber (Sig GSR). These conversions allow the shooter to use more powerful ammunition without having to upgrade their existing handgun's magazine capacity.
