Corruption with May Issue permit systems, NYC edition

I know, I know, it's too easy to point to NYC as the example of corruption in government. However, New York City has a "may issue" handgun permit system that everyone knows only gives a few gun permits to the wealthy and connected. With the following bust, we glimpse what gun permits really cost when dealing with a corrupt system.

Alex "Shaya" Lichtenstein was an entrepreneur, only helping people get one of those unicorn NYC gun permits. You pay him $18,000 and he gets you the permit. His deal was paying off NYC cops $6000 per permit, and he successfully got ~150 handgun permits for his clientele.

The bust of the operation netted 3 NYC cops for their part. At $6000 per permit times 150, that's $900,000 the cops netted to bolster their paycheck from the city. Just think, if the cops involved also had other clients, they were doing quite well for themselves. (Shaya netted about $1.8 million for himself for those 150 permits after paying off the cops--a nice side income).

Just think about how much government employees can make when they are in key positions for permits and inspections.
You can fool all of the people some of the time, and some of the people all of the time...and those are pretty good odds.
