rust on the barrell

Post by Mayl »

I have some rust on the barrell of my shotgun. you can't see it unless you put a light on it. some one told me vasaline would take it off but im worried it may damage it or remove the bluing. I read here https://rustconverters.net/ goob advices but what can anyone tell me if this would work or what else to use. thanks.

Use Flitz.

It takes the light rust right off without damaging the blueing.

Some ancient 'gunsmith kinks' that I have personally used
on old 1943 Sears 12 gauge bolt action given by uncle:

Vinegar patch. Soak a bandage with table vinegar and wrap
spot. In a day rust 'peeled off'. If you have a darkroom dilute
10cc Glacial Acetic Acid in 500cc H20.

A gun patch with Birchwood Casey Perma Blue Liquid Gun Blue
on spot to match color with Q-tip to match shade.

Oil to finish.

Wiser and more experienced gray-beards here like the
good Captain are to be listened to FIRST.
