Leaving mags loaded?
Re: Leaving mags loaded?
I have a luger that my Great Uncle brought back from Germany after WWII. It remained loaded with a full mag from 1946 till 1962. At that time my Father and Grandfather shot it, cleaned it, reloaded the mag and it sat that way till 1988. When my Grandfather died I inherited the Luger, shot it with perfect functioning, cleaned it, and you still need the loading tool to fully load the mag.

Re: Leaving mags loaded?
So many old threads around here. I've anyways wondered if the springs will go bad also. I got my glock 33 in 97 and always store my mags fully loaded. I've never had a feed issue and the spring feels fine loading them up. They are bulging a bit and don't drop from the well like they should any more. Noticed the bulging after I got my high capacity mags when the Brady bill expired.

Yes some springs are better than others, I don't have a list.
Other than that reading the thread will tell you it's not the constant compression that weakens a spring but the cycles of compression and decompression. In that respect, a spring, is a spring, is a spring.

Re: Leaving mags loaded?
This doesn't pertain to a magazine spring but slide springs. I use to store all my auto pistols with the slide back as another safety measure. I had to order another slide spring for my Kahr P 380. I was told not to store a pistol with the slide back. Opinions??doubloon wrote: a spring, is a spring, is a spring.

how is storing it with the slide back a safety measure?hardcase wrote:This doesn't pertain to a magazine spring but slide springs. Re: Leaving mags loaded?
It was a spring weakening issue, or at least what I was told. When I handle the gun, pick it up, I can verify there is not a round in the chamber. I have bad thumbs and while I can rack the slide, it isn't comfortable so I try to minimize my slide racking.fishman wrote:how is storing it with the slide back a safety measure?hardcase wrote:This doesn't pertain to a magazine spring but slide springs. Re: Leaving mags loaded?
cyclic tension causes the most wear and damage
static tension causes the least
