Just be careful back feeding juice to your panel from a portable generator. I was told by the electrician that installed my transfer switch that without it you can put power back through a line that is dead and being worked on by the power company and be potentially dangerous. I am not the man when it comes to electric, but I makes sense to me...

When back feeding from a generator, the first thing you do, before even connecting the generator to the house, is pull/turn off your main breaker on the panel from outside power.

I have a honda EU2000i, a 2kW briefcase style generator. It will run my crappy old refrigerator just fine if that is the only thing running on it. It runs my small chest freezer like a champ. I recently let it sit too long without starting it up and had problems with fuel jet clogging. Sprayed some carb cleaner in the intake, pulled the starter cord a gazillion times and it started up and ran. Be sure to use fuel stabilizer and run it for a few minutes every week and you should not have any problems. I think i paid 1000 for it new at northern tool and equipment.
