Marauder question

Post by glocker17 »

For those of you that have one... What is the noise level like, say compared to a 22LR bolt gun with subs and a good can. Is it even less? Looking for stupid quiet urban pest removal.

I had one but sold it when I ran into some lean months last year.

It is way, way quieter than a suppressed 22lr. I used it to shoot small varmin and and around my bird coups. Rats, chipmunks, all those things that eat a surprising amount of expensive livestock feed. It was accurate enough for the small targets and more powerful than any pellet gun I've owned before or since. There are more powerful airguns out there, but I've never owned one. It's kind of big and heavy. Not so much that it's a boat anchor, but not as light as the single shot Discovery.

I think it's the best easily aquirable gun for discreet vermin shooting. It's absurdly quiet and the ten shot magazine is head and shoulders better than farting around with a single shot. There are better guns for more money available, but pyramid will have a Marauder and pump at your door as soon as you make that happen.

Wow, I had no idea they were that quiet. I have been using a CZ452 with Warlock, as its quiet but not exactly legal. No to decide what caliber to get. I am thinking .25.

Mine was .22. I'm told that the .25 does hit harder, but you pretty much have to mail order the pellets. I was buying Crosman Premiers (which the gun seemed to like) at Walmart for seven bucks and change for 500 count tins. $15/1000 at full retail is sweet and the convenience of getting it wherever pellets are sold is nice. The .25 cost more. Not like centerfire ammo more but still not as cheap as the 'standard' sizes.

I've more or less switched over to .22 for all my airgunning. They kill better that .177 and they are easier to pick up with my fingers too.

This.

The first couple times I shot mine it was un-scoped and I just wanted to see what it sounded like so I shot it at the trees 100 yards away and all I heard was the ping of the hammer hitting the release valve.

I thought to myself "s--t, it's broke".

Checked the barrel and didn't see my pellet so I loaded another and aimed it at the ground ... ping .. FWAP, a cloud of dust and a big grin.

Mine is .177 caliber, I'm sure the .22 is about as quiet.

I'm sold. Its a toss up between 22 or 25, and I am leaning towards the 25. I have to mail order everything as it is, and a tin of pellets will last me a long time. I am thinking of using it for urban use only when a firearm isnt legal. Best price i have found so far is $399. Is that about right?

You can find a bunch of information on .177, .22 and .25 Marauders over here:

Note that .25 is a bit louder than .22, but it can be made quieter.
Depends on what kind of pest you want to get rid off too, but .22 will take care of anything up to a coyote.

$399 sounds like a decent price. I was an early adopter mine was $450-ish I think.

On the topic of the urban alternative, many cities have a law/ordinance against discharging even an airgun withing city limits. Also, many counties have their own restrictions like you have to be >150 feet away from neighbor's property/structures. I'm not saying dont' do it, I'm just saying be educated.

Post by derek_ecco »
