Re: KAC USP-T Suppressor
OK finally got some details I can relay to everyone interested.
We will be releasing these suppressors very shortly we just have to update some literature and descriptions within our system as to avoid issues in the future as well as find out the exact number of functioning suppressors we have, but right it looks like we have 40 or less that will be sold. Now here are a couple of pictures of the cans and what they will be coming with also the retail is $1560.98
Assembled with encapsulator and wipes
Encapsulator removed
Now for the interesting part, I am sure there are plenty of you out there are familiar with wipes in suppressors and the benefits/draw backs associated with them. But for those not aware, allow me to impart some knowledge. "Wipes" are a silicon based material that are intended to capture and seal most of the gas left behind after a bullet passes through them and they are great at this. But due to the fact that a "wipe" is directly in the path of a bullet the typical life of wipes is usually a very limited one to around 50rds or so. Also as they are a silicon based material they don't play nice with extended exposure to light and open air. They turn a yellowish color and become very rigid & brittle so depending on how they are stored they typically come with a shelf life. Now comes the really fun part, seeing as they are a component in this suppressor these "wipes" are classed as baffles, so they come with restrictions. Due to this these suppressors will only ship with 3 wipes for the encapsulator assembly and will not be sold separately to individuals. In an effort to continue to support these can we (KAC) have already thought of a solution. We will be offering/recommending that any class 3 dealer that purchases one of these suppressors that they also purchase our "repair kit" containing replacement wipes, which will allow a class 3 dealer the capability to service the suppressor within their building and not requiring them to return the suppressor to us. And just to be clear we DO NOT advocate individuals to go out find the appropriate material and cut your own wipes as this is a felony.

Gotta love how the system works.lawmens wrote: And just to be clear we DO NOT advocate individuals to go out find the appropriate material and cut your own wipes as this is a felony.
Even though I won't be purchasing a suppressor anytime real soon, it's good to learn the regulations for them.
Thanks for teh info
Re: KAC USP-T Suppressor
What comes in the "repair Kit" and any idea on approximate cost and part #?
Re: KAC USP-T Suppressor
The repair kit will consist of replacement wipes but as I said it will only be available for purchase by the class 3 dealer no individuals sales. We are still working on pricing and p/n at this time.

Re: KAC USP-T Suppressor
I am not trying to argue in any way because you guys would have a much better understanding of the laws than I would, but I was under the impression that ATF had made an exception for wipes. Here is an excerpt from the letter I am referencing:lawmens wrote: And just to be clear we DO NOT advocate individuals to go out find the appropriate material and cut your own wipes as this is a felony.
"In regard to the two parts in your cited example, we consider a
baffle to be a silencer, but a wipe, which is usually nothing more
than a rubber or plastic disc with a hole in it, is generally not
considered to be a silencer. Thus an individual owner could
replace a wipe."
The full response:
DEPARTMENT OF THE TREASURY
BUREAU OF ALCOHOL, TOBACCO AND FIREARMS
WASHINGTON, DC 20226
AUG 23 1999
901040:GS
5320/99-0115
Dear Mr. Bardwell:
This is in response to your letter of June 28, 1999, regarding the
repair of a silencer by an individual owner. You ask "whether it
is lawful for the owner of a lawfully possessed silencer ... to
repair that silencer himself, by replacing unserialized internal
components with new components of his own making." You cited the
replacement of a worn out plastic "wipe" or damaged baffle as an
example.
As you are aware, the terms "firearm silencer" and "firearm
muffler" mean any device for silencing, muffling, or diminishing
the report of a portable firearm, including any combination of
parts, designed or redesigned, and intended for use in assembling
or fabricating a firearm silencer or firearm muffler, and any part
intended only for use in such assembly or fabrication. Thus,
certain internal components, intended only for use in a silencer,
are silencers as defined.
If an individual made one of these parts, even for use as a
replacement part, the individual would be making a silencer. Under
the provisions of the National Firearms Act, any person must apply
for and receive permission to make a silencer and pay the making
tax for each silencer made. This would require the individual
owner to file an ATF Form 1 application for each silencer part to
be made with the payment of $200.00 for each application prior to
making any replacement part.
In regard to the two parts in your cited example, we consider a
baffle to be a silencer, but a wipe, which is usually nothing more
than a rubber or plastic disc with a hole in it, is generally not
considered to be a silencer. Thus an individual owner could
replace a wipe.

Mr. Bardwell
For the replacement of a part or parts that meet the definition of
a silencer, the individual owner would need to arrange for the
transfer of the silencer to a Federal firearms licensee who is
qualified to manufacture silencers.
If you have questions about the classification of other silencer
components, please provide us with a description of them or should
any additional information be needed, please contact Gary Schiable
at (202) 927-8330.
Sincerely yours,

Took me almost 5 minutes to stop staring at the pics... I'm loving it!
Re: KAC USP-T Suppressor
what is the part number for the repair kit.
Re: KAC USP-T Suppressor
Awesome. This is bad ass. I have been hunting for one of these for 6 years. Thank god I placed my order Friday!
You can never have enough KAC!
Re: KAC USP-T Suppressor
Ok who bought all of these cans from KAC, cause I was just told that they are now all spoken for...
Re: KAC USP-T Suppressor
While I am a KAC fan given the ATF and there opinions on the matter of wipes and parts this suppressor while I am sure a great performer is begging for issues. People who spend 1500 on a 45 suppressor do not want to have to return to a dealer for new wipes all the time. Folks like me who live hours from any dealer would be SOL. We need to return to the rational days of yesteryear when a can with wipes only required a sheet of material and a punch.lawmens wrote:The repair kit will consist of replacement wipes but as I said it will only be available for purchase by the class 3 dealer no individuals sales. Well it seems that they are unobtainable now, Lawmen's won't be selling them since someone recently bought the whole lot direct from KAC.

Re: KAC USP-T Suppressor
Damn, that's what I get for not logging into this site for months. I've been after one of these for years. So I'll throw it out there that I'm still interested and if anyone decides to sell, they can PM me.
Now, a question regarding the wipes. Let me get this straight, because I want to be clear. If I somehow managed to track down one of these cans, every time I shot it 50 rounds, it would have to go in for service to replace the wipes? Because I shoot more than that through my Ti-Rant in the first 20 minutes at a range.
Are the wipes there as a convenience or are they an essential and integral part of the suppressor necessary for its operation? In other words, what kind of problems would I run into if I ran 100 or more rounds through one of these at the range one day? Just a loss in efficiency? Or a serious safety/damage issue to the can?
