How to shim a 51T muzzle brake
Welll...another victim of the mk18 upper and SDN-6...I put a few extra shims on there, but it wasn't enough. I was going to order another AAC shim kit and some rocksett, but I was wondering if anyone else had a good alternative. The kit is out of stock everywhere...so I am stuck until they come in stock or someone has a good idea.

You should have been able to index it with the kit they supplied, how far is it off? Thats odd.sarthree wrote:Welll...another victim of the mk18 upper and SDN-6...I put a few extra shims on there, but it wasn't enough. Bender, he's talking about the fit because of the combo of the "no rear skirt" on the MB and the length of the DD rail.
It ends up being about 1/8" too short to mount a can. Someone should make a 1/8 (or ideally 3/16") precision shim tha you put on first, then use the AAC shims to time the mount.

We will do a run of shims if there is enough of a demand for them.JasonM wrote:No sweat, hey if you want to make a run of shims, a lot of folks have this problem.Bendersquint wrote:Oops, thanks for the clarification Jason.
Who would be interested in them?

If they are the standard AAC ones they won't fit for this purpose, you would need 3 or 4 sets stacked to get the size we are looking at.robpiat wrote:I have a bunch of PWS 1/2x28 shim sets here if anybody needs any.

Well you know more about it than I do than. In my uniformed opinion, you shouldn't ever use more than 2-3 shims to get where you are going. They ought to be for timing, not filling a gap. The PWS ones come with a fairly thick bushing, some true shims, and a fine tuning shim.Bendersquint wrote:If they are the standard AAC ones they won't fit for this purpose, you would need 3 or 4 sets stacked to get the size we are looking at.robpiat wrote:I have a bunch of PWS 1/2x28 shim sets here if anybody needs any.
If you have that much distance to go, I think it would make more sense to get a properly sized and machined bushing that takes up 98% of the gap.
