Surefire vs AAC Lawsuit?

General silencer discussion. If you want to talk about a specific silenced rifle or pistol, it is best to do that in the rifle or pistol section for that brand.

All NFA laws apply.

For the record, I did not know that the silencer that the AAC silencer was compared to was a Surefire silencer.

They made claims which seem impossible:

So when we tested it to be sure, we did not get past the 500 round range.

I am sure the Army would love to know how to fire an M4 that fast for more than 600 rounds before failure, since they were not able to do it. Never mind with a silencer on it.

I think Surefire made a "mistake". Their can certainly didn't get close to 50 magazines full auto in the one pictured below.

Surefire would like it to be made clear that the unpainted, unfinished non-black silencer on the right has not been fired.

It was clear to me when I first saw the comparison a while back. I thought it was a little biased to show a fired can next to an unfired can, but welcome to the world of advertising.

Now, if you had captioned the photos:

SureFire Silencer after 5 rounds compared to AAC Silencer after 5,000 rounds. That might be grounds for a false advertising lawsuit.

Good find. Yes, the cores are insanely durable with the type of welds we use.

I suppose that distinction would be important if the the inward or outward hygienic appearance of a can somehow contributed to its' sound lowering qualities and/or longevity. Weak........

I did, and I pointed it out as soon as AAC released that ad. No other well-known competing brand has that single weld ring near the muzzle end.

This is a pointless lawsuit. Surefire will be embarrassed when AAC brings up Barry Dueck's asinine claim. And most of their claims in the lawsuit seem really thin, like saying AAC "modified" the pictured surefire silencer to make it fail (how the hell would they know that or be able to prove it?).

There are plenty of ads which name competitors or show their distinctive profile:

Image

This would be like Microsoft alleging that Apple gives the false impression that PCs are more difficult to use and saying you can tell they are saying "Vista."

Weak.

and passing something written by a gunwriter as a Surefire advertisement is a level of stupid I haven't seen yet this week.
http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b ... 240&page=2

I believe this was in the surefire-owned magazine and is an infomercial. Surefire seems to have editorial control and also it was a direct quote of Surefire's silencer designer. Thirdly the same 1500 round claim is posted on Surefire's website.

Doubt thats going to happen.

The advertisement was poorly considered. I don't know if it rises to the point of being a matter for a lawsuit, but seriously, why compare can thats been fired and cross sectioned to a can that hasn't had a finish added?

You know I will say that the can on the right is clearly a Surefire can, but I can only tell because of their crappy welds, only Surefire cans have welds that bad.

I think that you would have known which one was a Surefire can about as well as you know left from right.
