Re: medical supplies
ross123, what about a couple of bvms, a macintosh, a miller, a coule of etts???
Re: medical supplies
I have a few things but the problem is the realistic useful life of IVs is pretty short. I think they expire in one or two years and I am not sure how long after they are safe. I am pretty sure the glass bottle ones last a lot longer. If you are in a profession where you can recycle the stock periodically, I bet that would help.

We used to give ourselves IV's with recently expired IVs when on road marches in Ft. Campbell, KY in the Summertime to stay hydrated. Never had any shortage of them either because they were always expiring.

Re: medical supplies
Some of that is pretty impressive.
I purchased some stuff from Cheaperthandirt.com and it seems rather inexpensive and handy. I did notice recently that the kit I bought 2 years ago is going to have about half the kit expire in the next 6 months.
Are the Cheaperthandirt.com materials a good cheap alternative? The kits you showed links to... will I find them to have longer expiration times?

Re: medical supplies
You have to use common sense on the expiration dates. Most of this stuff has a 1-2 year exp date which is completely illogical when you are talking about a bandaid, mono sutures, or a gauze pad. Personally, I would expect that most exp dates are at least have of their useful life. IV fluids on the other hand is something I would not mess with although I think their expiration dates are likely more BS than real. I expect you could make the case that the plastics leach into the fluids, but that's a high class problem if I was ever using them. The reality is that there are few injuries/illnesses A.require IV fluids and B.Can be dealt with without a surgeon or a hospital.
My rationale for keeping much of the items I have is that there are dozens of RN/Doc/Vet that live within a mile of me and none of them likely have supplies. If the SHTF, it would be easier to find expertise than equipment.

Re: medical supplies
And it REALLY helps if You're an RN for the last 19 years and have ongoing expertise in peripheral/port CVC IV access, indicated infusions and wound care for any injury. And most pepul today are dying from their DIEet. Like cause and effect from diabetes to congestive heart failure- mostly all preventative w/ loss/lack of common sense. The required supplies as noted above for any situation are familiar and well known for any situation. I sharpen my medical skills at work everyday. Hope NEVER to need them under duress but my family is fortunate that the nurse is available 24/7/365. My wife has no remote flaming clue to how bad society in general is getting but I am dearly grateful that I'm ahead of the learning curve. I can reload buckets of ammo on my Dillon or place an IV for the hard stick fat lady. The professional satisfaction is indescribable and so gratifying. Been there, doing now and done that a long time ago. Someday appropriate professional wound care with IV antibiotics will be infinitely worth much more than gold unless backed up by hot lead. So, keep those supplies and that powder dry. :Dstarlingstalker
