TAC 65 Rebuild

Post by ncorry »

I had John replace the baffles in my TAC 65 with all steel ones. The TAC 65 came with 6 aluminum baffles. John sent mine back with 7 of the new stainless baffles. Wow. Great re-build, new end caps, ultrasonic safe baffle stack, and turnaround was about 8 days door to door. Very impressed with the work. Oh, and the new ones are quite a bit quieter than the originals. A little bit quieter on the 10/22, but huge difference on the MKII.

Signed,
One VERY happy customer.

What was his price point on that

Even $200 for 7 steel baffles, two new end caps that use the original TAC65 drivers, return shipping and complete refinish. Would've been worth the $200 for the baffles, as they are much quieter. Really can't say how happy I was when I got it back with about a 9 day turnaround.

Hey John. Thanks for the interest-free loan for the last 6 months. The recored TAC65 is still flat out awesome. Heard that some Mt. Ida boys I pointed your way got the full tour. I'm jealous.

I see the rebuild service offered on the website with all aluminum or with stainless steel blast baffle, did you get all steel baffles? I am interested in having mine rebuilt but would like all SS baffles if that's an option.

Not sure what you mean by untreated, but yes, I did get all steel baffles. I think the original TAC65 came with a spacer and 6 baffles (maybe 5), but John rebuilt it with no spacer and 7 baffles (maybe 6). In any event, it is a tiny bit heavier, all steel baffles and a hell of a lot quieter and easier to clean. New end caps and a refinish of the scratches to boot. I can't really adequately explain how happy I was with the performance or the service of the rebuild.

Just curious ,but , why are the end caps replaced ?
I completely understand the baffles, but not quite the end caps.

Better fit and part of the design due to different size baffle.

If the endcaps were not replaced the baffles might rattle or endcaps may not screw in all the way.

Easier to just replace the caps during the recore, we do that on our recores as well.

John, is the 200.00$ for all steel baffles for the TAC-65 still available? PM me i'm interested. I saw the video of the TAC67, but nothing on a re-cored TAC-65, is it really that much quieter? Thanks.
