Well, having to approve new members didn't work. There was no way to know who was real and who was a spammer. I think I have the board set up so that anyone can join, but the first several posts by new members must be approved by a moderator prior to them being public. I've been disapproving and deleting new members posting in Russian and advertising adult materials by the dozens.
If you are a new member, please start a thread in the new member forum telling us why you joined and what you hope to get out of this place. It will have to be approved before it shows up but that is one way to make sure you are a real person.
We'll see how this goes.
