Baffle orientation

Its often asked if ports should be aligned. Yes ported cone and K baffle should. The reason is asymmetric port flow reinforcement in a reducing pressure environment. Each baffle in turn strips high pressure gas where the port or clip allows a stream of gas to move forward adding to higher pressure ports downstream.. Higher port pressure adds to asymmetric turbulence and thus higher SPL numbers for each baffle in turn. I read some tests where it could add up to 5 db loss. This will most likely be seen where more baffles are used as in subsonic designs.
The only exception may be widely spaced baffles or where ports bleed gases away from the next in line. Comments?

Closer spacing raises port pressure. Previous ports allow more gas pressure on the next port inline. Wide spacing lowers downstream pressures due to cooling and expansion.

Think about this : normal practice is ported cone baffles with a decreasing spacing arrangement. A uniform spacing is not as quiet. The reason is that by forcing the gases in ever decreasing volumes it causes higher turbulence and SPL loss with added port pressure. Its hard not having a chalk board to give visuals.

For example for the .22 the 'simple' Little Bird •with just 4 conical baffles
seems to meter a bit under the gold standard Dead Air HD.

And the 'Russian-Peasant' designed Stetchkin APB suppressor with a
few bent washers is effective.
